"Deep Diversity" An empowerment seminar
From July 22 to 25, 2024, we went on a seminar trip to Stuttgart with a group of young people who were catching up on their secondary school leaving certificate or were in transition from school to work.
In the seminar, we spent the first two days reflecting on our identities and affiliations. The main focus here was on understanding the forms, functions and effects of discrimination. Using confidence-building and theater exercises, we were able to approach these complex topics together in a playful and interactive way. The experience of classism, queer hostility and racism in relation to the Israel/Palestine conflict was discussed in particular. Towards the end of the second day, we placed a parallel empowering focus on options for action, both on a small scale, e.g. among friends, and on a large scale, in society as a whole. The participants found this very empowering.
We also took advantage of our stay in a big city with lots of leisure activities and not only thought about what is good for and strengthens us in theory, but also put it into practice
Many thanks for a great time!
