Student representation: Workshops on participation at school

The student representative body (SV) represents the interests of the students at a school. It contributes significantly to the democratization of schools and the self-determination of students at school. Unfortunately, the role of the SV is sometimes forgotten in everyday school life. Class representatives are elected based on popularity in the class and not because they can represent their class particularly well. The student representatives perform auxiliary tasks for the teachers and limit their other activities to organizing social events. Even if the latter are important for good cooperation, SV is more than that!

In order to strengthen the SV in exercising its democratic role, we held workshops for students at the beginning of the school year to prepare for their class representative elections. In the workshop, we use playful and real-life methods to address the rights and obligations of the SV and its role in the school community. We also work out what qualities a person must have in order to represent the respective class “well”.

Many thanks to the students for the good discussions about the needs that the "Motzmonster" collected and which should now be processed. All the best to you and the class representatives for the new school year!
