Exchange with Colleagues (TECE)

From November 5th to 14th 2021, the fellows of the project "Transatlantic Exchange of Civic Educators, TECE" from the Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten e. V. and the Tisch College of Civic at Tufts University in Boston met in person for the first time in Germany. The exchange began in July with online sessions, and will conclude in January 2022 with a second meeting in the United States.

Our colleague Michelle Chávez, as part of the group of 21 Fellows, had the opportunity to participate in the 10-day program, which ranged from group seminars and expert groups to site visits, relevant organizations and methodological workshops.

The main objectives of the face-to-face meeting included getting to know the German civic education landscape (discourse, thematic focus and structures) and the opportunity to exchange experiences. The main topics included: Rightwing extremism prevention, international youth work, non-formal education, memory and historical-political education, decolonization and anti-racism discourses among others.

Project background

TECE brings together professionals in non-formal civic education in Germany and the U.S. to engage in dialogue in the field of youth work and identify the best methods for encouraging young people to become politically engaged.
