This workshop aims to build a theoretical basis. Marc Melcher will introduce us to the history and meaning of the concept of toxic masculinity. He will introduce us to the practical working field of critical boy's work. Participants will get a basic understanding of the effects of hegemonic masculinity and about how they show in the hierarchies in between groups of boys*. The workshop also allows an entry into the field of gender-reflected education with boys*, considering critically the underlying power relations. Marc Melcher will be approaching the matter by giving examples from his experiences in this field from the last decade.

About the trainer

Marc Melcher is a qualified pedagogue, gender pedagogue, boys*worker and Early Excellence consultant. He worked for a long time in open child and youth work and during this time trained as a gender pedagogue. Since 2009, he has been responsible for the management of gender-related boys' projects and the management of the Hessen office for boys' work at the Paritätisches Bildungswerk Bundesverband, a program partner in "Kultur macht stark". He is a central player in the development and advancement of the pedagogical practice of critical boys* work. While he mainly offers multiplier:in trainings on the topic today, he continues to be active in the practice of youth education, where he critically reviews and further develops pedagogical approaches and methods of gender-reflective education.

Target group

The training series is aimed at facilitators from the fields of civic education, social work and other professionals in youth work. This training series will be held in German and English language. We invite people of all genders to participate in the workshop, but ask cis-male participants to use the place and occasion also to reflect on their (physical) position and privileges. basa e.V. strives to open a diversity-sensitive and discrimination-critical space with the series.

Participation fee

The participation fee for the event is 15,00€. However, participation should not be hindered by financial means, which is why we may also exempt you from paying the participation fee. Please contact us directly with your needs.
