We encounter racism on many levels and in many different forms. Sometimes brutally and openly, as in the violent attacks in Solingen, Rostock or Hanau, sometimes supposedly hidden in everyday encounters or on the housing or labor market. In the context of the educational week we will deal intensively with the social power relation 'racism'.
Racism has grown historically, with European colonialism, the church's mission history, so-called race theories and slavery. Also and especially in the context of the church there is a need to deal with racism. Here, too, power relations were enforced through religious legitimization and structural racism. In order to initiate this debate and to tackle changes, we must learn to recognize everyday forms of racism and to perceive them as a problem. We must also be willing to embark on a long journey of self-reflection and engagement with our respective environments. In addition to sharpening the concept of discrimination, the historical dimension and intersectionality, we will deal with anti-Muslim racism and options for action.
The educational week is aimed at white and black and Person of Color positioned people. We will work in different formats depending on the situation and expect especially from the former a high readiness for self-reflection.
